Woman shares 'correct' way to put lights on a Christmas tree but it sparks outrage

If, when it comes to decorating your Christmas tree, you coil the lights around the branches, "you're doing it wrong".

According to 46-year-old Clare Hooper, who previously decorated Christmas trees professionally, there's a much simpler method that will save you time, effort and money too.

In a video, which has had 2.4 million views on TikTok, Clare explains her trusty 'zig-zag' method.

She can be seen attaching the lights to a branch at the bottom of the tree before bringing them right back to the top, and back down again so it forms vertical lines - but it didn't go down too well as some people have said she "must have been fired for putting lights on a tree like that".

Speaking in the clip, she explains: “If you’re coiling your Christmas tree lights, you’re doing it wrong.

“Decorating Christmas trees used to be part of my job and we use the zig-zag method.

“It means you don’t waste lights round the back of your tree and if a set breaks you can take them off really easily.”

Captioning the post, she wrote: "This method saved me so many times."

Since being posted, her video has received more than 116,000 likes and 1000 comments from users who just aren't sold on her method.

One said: "But I think zig zag looks tacky as hell sooo".

While another wrote: "I've never been so enraged by anything in my life. The tree is supposed to have lights ALL around it. We don't skip a section."

"'Used to be' no wonder, you must have been fired for putting lights on a tree like that" added a third.

But a couple of people found the tip helpful as one person said: "Omg I never thought of this. Buzzing to do mine now".

A second added: "Love this."
