Woman shares cheap hack for getting rid of fruit flies almost instantly

Summer may be over, but unfortunately, fruit flies are still here to annoy us.

Although tiny, they can prove a serious annoyance when you're trying to go about your day-to-day business, and sometimes it feels like they're impossible to get rid of.

Fruit flies can lay up to 500 eggs at a time, so if you find several buzzing around your kitchen, it should come as no surprise.

After hatching, the larva feast on their sweet surroundings (that's where the over-ripe food comes in), and then hatch a few days later.

Fruit flies can mate as little as two days after reaching the adult stage, so it's important to try and rid them as soon as they appear to avoid complete infestation.

Luckily, though, one woman has shared a brilliant hack to eradicate fruit flies, and the best news is, it will only cost you pennies.

Tina Smith, from Dublin, took to social media to reveal how an age-old trick had worked wonders for her.

Posting on Facebook, she showed how she'd filled a cup with apple cider vinegar and covered it with cling film which had been pricked with tiny holes to trap the pesky flies.

She captioned the picture: "Anybody else getting these horrible little things? I don't have fruit and I'm getting them, disgusting."

Clearly relating to the post, many other Facebook users flooded the comment section with their own fruit fly annoyances.

Apple cider vinegar is said to attract flies with its sweetness - causing them to fly in through the holes and leaving them unable to escape back out.

Speaking to RSVP Live, Tina explained how the hack had started to work almost immediately.

She said: "Within the first half hour I had caught over twenty of them.

"It's working so happy days."

Apple cider vinegar costs as little as £1.15 in some major UK supermarkets.
