Unclogging dirty plug holes might just be the grossest household chore going. You'd be hard pushed to find anyone who finds rummaging inside a drain fun at the best of times, and the task gets even worse if you come across a large clump of loose hair. But it is important to keep your pipes clean or you could risk serious plumbing problems.
Thankfully, a cleaning guru has shared a trick to pull out dirty hair without needing to touch it - and the simple tip costs just 1p. Taking to TikTok, @washy_wash recommended using cheap cable ties to unclog plug holes.
Demonstrating the life hack, as she dubbed it, the cleaning whiz took a few seconds to add "zig-zag" cuts along the cable tie using scissors.
Having created several indents, she then pushed the tie through her bathtub's plug hole, before removing it, along with the long clumps of hair that had attached to it. "1p Bathtub Unclogger," read the onscreen caption.
Sharing further advice in the comments, the creator replied to a responder who did not understand how to create the scissor marks. "Zig zag - it looks like thorns," she replied.
The cleaner also pointed out you can purchase cable ties of varying length, depending what you need.
Summing up why she likes the tip, she added: "It’s cheap and you can reuse it."
In response, viewers were quick to praise the idea, though some felt a little queasy after seeing all the hair pulled from the drain. "That looks so good," said one fan of the trick.
"You gave me a good idea , thank you," read a similar reply. But another commenter had mixed feelings, writing: "Noooooooo I mean good idea but also noooooooo."
Someone else agreed: "Lol gross, but satisfying." "I'm already throwing up," read a different reply."
So, if you hate seeing hair pulled from a drain, unfortunately, this tip won't help you, but it can save you needing to touch the hair with your bare hands.
