Woman shamed over weight by boyfriend told 'you looked beautiful before and after'

Hundreds have thrown their support behind a woman shamed over her weight by a former partner, telling her she is beautiful no matter how she looks.

Yesterday the ECHO reported Jennifer Atkin, from Grimsby, was dumped by her fiance for being "too fat".

The 26-year-old office administrator worked hard to drop from 17st 9lbs to 9st 5lbs in two years and is now on track to win Miss Great Britain.

But many ECHO readers said Jennifer looked beautiful before and after she started her weight transformation and congratulated her on winning the coveted Miss Great Britain title.

Julie Lomax said: "Fat or thin, it's what inside that matters. His loss, you looked beautiful before and and beautiful now. Well done xxx."

Gillian Morris said: "You were still beautiful with the weight on, but I totally understand about feeling better and more confident about yourself with weight loss.

"I am on my weight loss journey and I have to lose over six stone to lose in total. Well done, you're an inspiration."

And Jackie Wilcox Murray added: "At the end of the day, he should have loved her for the person she was, not because of her weight."

Soraya Stewart said: "Great, but always do it for yourself. You were gorgeous when you were a plus size. Beauty shines from within."

Many also praised Jennifer for her efforts.

Michelle Gavan said: "She looks absolutely amazing. Well done Jennifer and well done on your achievement winning Miss Great Britain."

Jennifer had retired from pageants after getting married last year but decided to give it one more shot after having her name put forward to represent Great Britain this year.

She said: "I'm still in shock at winning, I'm so happy I can't even put it into words - I honestly can't believe it.

"When I started doing this it was just for a bit of fun, I never imagined how far I would come.

"Winning Miss Great Britain marks the end of a long and difficult, but also amazing, journey.

"Although my body has changed so much I think don't think my personality has, and I think that's really helped me.

"The judges were able to see what kind of person I really am."
