Woman sexually assaulted on train as police launch CCTV appeal

British Transport Police have released CCTV footage of a man they believe could help with their enquiries after a woman reported being sexually assaulted on a train near St Helens.

On August 29 at around 7.30pm, a woman was reportedly sexually assaulted by a man onboard the 7.12pm service from Liverpool to Blackpool.

The victim reported the incident to a train guard at St Helens, who then contacted the police.

The man is believed to have boarded the train at Liverpool Lime Street and left the service at Wigan.

British Transport Police said in a statement: "Detectives have made extensive enquiries into the incident and believe the man in the CCTV image may have information which could help their investigation."
