Woman 'sexually assaulted' on Eurostar train to London

A woman has claimed she was sexually assaulted by a group of ‘very drunk’ Dutch men on a Eurostar train travelling to London.

The incident allegedly happened on a service travelling from Amsterdam to St Pancras on Friday at around 5pm.

Upon arrival in London, two men were arrested by officers who were waiting for them on the platform.

A witness told the Daily Mail that a group of men had been acting drunk and disorderly on the train— and were caught smoking in the toilets.

Staff on the Eurostar train reportedly told them to quieten down, but they continued with their unruly behaviour.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to St Pancras International railway station at around 5pm on Friday (5 June) following reports that a woman had been sexually assaulted on a Eurostar service arriving into London.

“Once the train arrived, one man was arrested on suspicion of Sexual Assault while another was arrested on suspicion of Perverting the Course of Justice.”

It comes amid growing calls for greater protections for women and girls on public transport.

Some campaigners have called for women-only carriages, as well as bystander intervention programmes to teach witnesses how to safely intervene when they see an incident of harassment.

Reports of sexual assault and harassment on trains in the UK have risen by more than a third over the past 10 years, according to recent data.

There were 2,661 incidents reported across England, Scotland and Wales in 2024, where one in 10 were children.

A spokesperson for Eurostar said: “On Friday, police met Eurostar service 9147 on arrival at London St Pancras following reports that a female passenger was subjected to sexual harassment by a group of male passengers onboard.

“We are deeply concerned by this incident and are in contact with the passenger to offer our support. The safety and wellbeing of our customers and staff is our highest priority.

“Eurostar has a zero-tolerance approach to harassment, abuse, or any form of inappropriate behaviour. Everyone should feel safe and respected when travelling with us, and conduct of this nature has absolutely no place on our services.

“As this matter is now being handled by the British Transport Police, any further enquiries regarding the investigation should be directed to them.”
