The attack happened at around 1am on Thursday, August 1 in New Row Perth, and officers sealed off the area to carry out investigations.

A police spokesperson said: “Police Scotland is carrying out enquiries following a report of a sexual assault on a woman at New Row in Perth at about 1am on Thursday, August 1.

“The investigation is at an early stage, however officers are following a positive line of enquiry.”

Cllr Chris Ahern, who represents the city centre, said: “This is horrific and very worrying.

“This is very sad and I hope the person who was attacked is okay.

“There is no excuse for what has happened, women should not be being sexually assaulted.”
