Woman seriously injured in two-car crash near Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan

A woman has been seriously injured in a two-car crash this evening.

At around 5pm, two cars were involved in a collision on the R179 at Corduffkelly, near Carrickmacross in Co Monaghan.

Gardai and the emergency services attended the scene and the driver of one of the cars, a woman in her 50s, was removed by air ambulance to Tallaght Hospital in Dublin.

Her injuries are understood to be serious, gardai said.

A passenger in her car, a girl in her late teens, and the driver and sole occupant of the other car, a man in his 40s, were both taken to Our Lady Of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, Co Louth.

Their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The scene has been preserved and local diversions are currently in place.

Gardai in Castleblayney are appealing for witnesses to contact them and anyone with information is asked to contact Castleblayney Garda Station on 042-9747900 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
