Woman seriously injured after Lower Briggate taxi crash

A pedestrian has been taken to hospital for emergency treatment after she was seriously injured in a collision with a taxi in Leeds city centre.

West Yorkshire Police say the woman, who is in her 40s, was involved in a collision with an Amber Cars taxi at the junction of Lower Briggate and Heaton’s Court.

The crash happened shortly after 2.30am on Tuesday, April 9.

Lower Briggate was closed for several hours while police carried out an investigation, but reopened shortly after 8.45am.

A police spokesman said: "Police are appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision in Leeds this morning in which a woman pedestrian was seriously injured.

"At 2.38am today police were contacted by the ambulance service who were attending the incident at the junction of Lower Briggate and Heaton’s Court in the city centre.

"The woman, aged in her forties, was involved in a collision with a taxi – a maroon Skoda Octavia.

"She was taken to hospital for emergency treatment and is in a serious condition.

"The driver of the Skoda stopped at the scene and has been spoken to by officers."

He added: "Anyone who witnessed the incident or the movements of the pedestrian or vehicle prior to the collision is asked to contact officers via 101 quoting log number 130 of April 9."
