Woman seriously injured after broad-daylight 'altercation' in Scots town

A woman has suffered serious head and back injuries after an 'altercation' in East Lothian.

Police are probing the assault which took place at the junction of Waterloo Road and Ormiston Road in Tranent.

The broad-daylight attack kicked off at around 3pm on Tuesday.

The woman, aged 36, was rushed to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Her current medical condition is not known at this time.

No other injuries have been reported by police.

Police are urging witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Sergeant Jordan Stevenson said: "We're appealing to anyone who might have witnessed a disturbance taking place in that area or has any information related to this to contact us."

"Anyone with information should contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting incident number 1010 of September 15.

"Alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
