Woman serious after car hit power pole in early hours

A WOMAN is in serious condition at the John Hunter hospital after a Central Coast crash in the early hours of Friday.

Police said emergency services were called to Shelley Beach Road near The Entrance Road at Long Jetty about 12.30am after a Volkswagen sedan struck a power pole.

"The driver, a 32-year-old woman, sustained head injuries and was airlifted to John Hunter Hospital, where she remains in a serious condition," NSW Police said in a statement.

A Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service spokesman said the woman was trapped for a short time before she was placed in an induced coma and flown to hospital.

Two passengers, a man believed to be 41 and a 31-year-old woman, were taken to Gosford Hospital.

Police said their injuries were not life-threatening.

Tuggerah Lakes police are examining the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Anyone with information is urged to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
