A woman has been sentenced to 55 years in prison for the brutal killing of her longtime friend, who was stabbed nearly 500 times in 2022. The defendant, Kailie A. Brackett, was convicted of murder despite claiming she was not responsible and suggesting that the real killer or killers may still be at large.
Brackett and another individual, Donnell Dana, were both charged in connection with the murder. However, a mistrial was declared for Dana after jurors were unable to reach a unanimous decision on the charge against him. The victim, Kimberly Neptune, 43, was found dead in her home in Perry, with her body wrapped in a blanket and bearing 484 stab wounds, as reported by state police.
The discovery of Neptune's body was made by police officers from the Passamaquoddy Pleasant Point reservation, following an alert from her brother. Perry, where the incident occurred, is located adjacent to the Passamaquoddy Tribe reservation at Pleasant Point. Dana later pleaded guilty to hindering apprehension or prosecution by disposing of evidence related to Brackett's murder charge.
