Police in Brazil say that a spurned lover sent poisoned chocolate Easter Eggs to her romantic rival but ended up killing a child instead.

Jordélia Pereira Barbosa, 35, is accused by authorities of buying and sending the Easter Egg that killed the 7-year-old child and left her mother and older sister hospitalized, according to Imperatriz Online.

The outlet added that Barbosa is the ex-girlfriend of the woman's current partner and that police believe the crime was motivated by jealousy. It added that police had CCTV footage showing Barbosa wearing a wig while buying the Easter treats at a supermarket.

Police then told FDamiao Noticias that the Easter Egg was delivered on Wednesday as if it were a gift. The egg had a note with the message: "With love, to Mirian Lira. Happy Easter."

According to The Standard, police have found receipts for the chocolate eggs, two wigs, scissors, cards, a saw knife, and suspected drugs. The newspaper reported that although Barbosa lived 200 miles away, police verified she was staying at an area hotel at the time of the incident.
