Woman screams 'I hope you get coronavirus' and 'spits at shoppers in Morrisons'

Shoppers queuing inside a supermarket to buy vital supplies during lockdown were allegedly spat at by a woman who said "I hope you all get coronavirus ".

Pensioners were apparently among those said to have been spat at in a Morrisons store in Bolton, Greater Manchester - with the alleged culprit restrained by members of the public before police arrived.

A witness said when a security guard attempted to remove the woman they were also spat at and then injured in the struggle.

Shoppers helped to restrain her while staff called 999, with a witness also claiming one member of the public who helped was taken to hospital with injuries.

Officers were called to assist at the supermarket in Bury Road, Breightmet, at around 4.45pm on Wednesday (March 25).

A witness, who did not wish to be named, told the Manchester Evening News : “It took several people to restrain her. A woman who helped restrain her is now on her way to hospital.

“She was spitting on pensioners and the security guard, saying ‘I hope you all get coronavirus’.

“Even when she was bleeding she was doing it, it’s not very nice.

“The police came and managed to restrain her at a later date across from the retail park on a pathway.

“She must have had a hell of a fight in her because it’s quite a way from the entrance to the Morrisons to the other side of the road.”

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “We were called at 4.46pm to Morrisons on Bury Road to reports of women fighting.

“There is nothing to suggest that this was related to Covid-19.”

The Mirror Online has contacted Morrisons for comment.
