Woman saves tiny octopus from being cut off from the tide on Welsh beach

A woman has rescued an octopus after it was cut off by the tide and stranded on a Welsh beach. Vikki Jevons was out with her friend on a weekly beach walk when they noticed something crawling in the sand from a distance.

They discovered a tiny curled octopus over the weekend, the size of the palm of her hands, washed up ashore and a considerable distance away from the ocean. It is not the first time a curled octopus has washed up along Welsh shores with two previously being sighted 'walking' back to sea in New Quay.

When out exploring their weekly beach excursion with friend Tash Lees and Greyhound Whippet 'Tiggi', the friends discovered a small object inland making it's way to the sea in Freshwater East beach, Pembrokeshire. Grabbing two nearby stones for the Octopus to latch onto, Vikki carried the marine creature closer to the ocean and returned it safely.

"We tend do always walk when the tides in and saw something in the saw crawling, It is the first time we've ever seen something like it and it had been cut off from the tide.

"We couldn't believe it, the dog was curious and we just knew we had to do something as the beach was really popular with other dogs and were worried something may happen to it" said Vikki.

"It was tiny, the size of the palm of my hand and it was nice to know it was safe, its the first one we've ever seen and just knew we had to help" she added.
