After noticing her goldfish was upside down, one woman performed the Heimlich manoeuvre and saved the fish’s life.
Kharis Harvey was attending to one of her plants by 10-year-old Gilly the goldfish’s tank when she spotted her acting “strange”.
According to Cornwall Live, the business woman said: "It struck me as strange as she is normally always very mobile, so I opened the lid of the tank and reached in and turned her over so I could see her face and that's when I saw a large stone in her mouth.
"I turned her back the right way and gave her belly a couple of gentle squeezes either side and the large pebble shot out of her mouth which I quickly removed from the tank."
She added: "Although I was very upset, I was glad to see her swimming about again and she quickly went back to foraging around her gravel. I fed her and rushed to get her food and now appears to be back to normal."
Gilly is a fancy fan fin goldfish and has been Ms Harvey’s pet for a decade.
Ms Harvey said she usually loves pushing marbles and stones around the tank but now she has had to remove these from the tank.
She added: "I cannot understand how or why she would have swallowed a larger stone on this occasion, but I'm glad that I was there to help her. I had no idea what I was doing but I just followed my instinct and hopefully it worked ok.
"I'm so glad that she's safe as I'm still saving to get her a bigger tank. I hope that we have many more years together."
