Woman safely helped down from bridge over A6 in Salford

A woman was safely helped down from a bridge following an incident which saw a main road closed in Salford.

Police say they were called to 'concern over the welfare of a woman' who was seen on the wrong side of a bridge over the A6 Broad Street at the Pendleton Roundabout.

The roundabout and nearby roads were closed to traffic just before noon.

Officers were able to safely help the woman down, and the roads were then reopened at around 1pm.

The closure caused long delays in Salford around the A6 and on Broughton Road.

Stagecoach, Go North West, Diamond and Arriva buses were all diverted around the scene of the incident.

In a statement on Twitter, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) initially warned of a crash in the area.

But a GMP spokesperson said no collision had been reported.

Anyone with information on non-urgent police incidents in Salford can call GMP on 101.
