Woman's urgent house fire warning over table legs and sunlight

A woman has posted a warning on social media after she claimed reflected sun scorched a rug in her home.

Gillian Owens, from Merseyside, posted a photograph on Facebook which appeared to show scorching which had been caused by the sun reflecting of a table leg in her front room.

Ms Owens urged homeowners to cover chrome table legs and chairs to prevent reflected sun causing serious damage.

She posted a message which read: "This is not a joke, if you have a dining table with chrome legs then make sure the sun is not shining directly on the legs or rest of the chrome as it can cause a fire in your home.

"As you can see from the photos, the rug on the left has the sun reflecting off the table leg and is acting like a magnifying glass, the rug pic on right is the damage done to my rug by the sun but caught in time before it was set alight.

"Cover your table legs and chairs if they are in direct sunlight or better still, move them or shut blinds.

"Please be very careful and share this, especially if you know someone with a dining table with chrome legs."
