Woman's TikTok clip terrifies people as they claim to spot 'shadow demon' behind her

We can easily lose hours of our day, scrolling endlessly through TikTok videos.

Often we don't pay too much attention to what's going on in the background of them, merely enjoying the music, dance challenges or jokes.

But one viral video has taught us we might need to take a closer look from now on,

A TikTok user named Mariyah May, has gone viral on the social media platform after her followers thought they'd spotted something terrifying in the back of one of her videos.

In a clip she posted, under the username @mooyahyah, Mariyah filmed herself removing some very long fake nails.

As she clips off the nails, a shadowy figure can be seen standing behind her in the kitchen.

A number of people didn't notice the figure at first and Mariyah herself seems oblivious to it in the clip.

Taking to the comments, people speculated what it could have been - with some claiming it was a "shadow demon" and others branding it "negative energy".

But it turns out there was a much more logical explanation.

It turns out it was her fiance in the background (officialemobrat/TIKTOK)

Replying to some of the comments, Mariyah later reassured people it was just her fiancé in the background.

Phew!

The video has since been watched more than 24 million times, garnering over 4.2 million likes.

One person commented: "He's standing there like a ghost, it's scary."

Another said: "My heart literally dropped."

Someone else added: "I almost c***ped myself."

Others urged her to run, while some admitted they hadn't noticed the figure until people pointed it out in the comments.

A different user wasn't scared at all though, writing: "Y'all it literally just looks like someone using the microwave. Chill."

To which Mariyah replied: "I actually don't own a microwave so I have no clue what he was doing."
