Woman's terror as yobs smash car window with object thrown from bridge over A78

A woman escaped serious injury when yobs smashed the rear window of her car with an object thrown from a bridge.

The terrifying ordeal happened on the A78 in Irvine, underneath the footbridge between Castlepark and Montgomery Park, at around 6pm on Friday, August 13.

Police, who are appealing for information, said the incident caused other cars to swerve and could have been 'catastrophic.'

The female driver was travelling southbound in her white Kia when the item from thrown.

A police spokesman said: "Luckily in this instance nobody was significantly injured, however the incident was very shocking for those involved and could have been catastrophic.

"The driver noted a group of youths on the footbridge as she approached and also observed cars in front swerve and take evading action also."

"We would ask that any motorists who were travelling on the A78 at that time please review any dashcam footage they may have, and we also appeal to the wider community in an effort to to trace those responsible.

"If you can help, or know the identity of anyone involved please contact Irvine Police Office on 101 quoting incident #3358 of the 13th, thanks. "
