Woman's response as she sees kids throwing items off M53 bridge

A woman said she was 'peeved off' to see kids throwing items down to the motorway as she drove across Woodchurch flyover during rush hour.

Lynn Bollard was driving from her home in Prenton when she saw a group of three teenage boys throwing unidentified objects from the Woodchurch bridge near Birkenhead at 5.30pm on Monday, September 13.

The 54-year-old said she was 'peeved off' and 'very angry' for doing something she said she'd never have thought to do as a child.

She told the ECHO : "They were just laughing about it. It's like they had no thought process, as though they just didn't understand the consequences of what the hell they were doing."

Lynn added: "They just don't seem to think it's going to cause a problem. It could have caused a pile up. I don't know."

Items dropped from bridges can cause serious damage to people and vehicles passing below. An eight-month pregnant woman swerved her car on a busy road when an object was dropped from the New Ferry bypass.

A 16-year-old boy was sentenced to four years detention for manslaughter after admitting dropping a car battery off the bridge at New Ferry Bypass, causing the death of Moreton van driver Christopher McCaffrey in 2004.

Lynn said she beeped her horn at the three boys, making them jump as she passed before calling the police further down the road.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police told the ECHO : "We received a call at 5.35pm last night, Monday 13th September, reporting that a group of males were standing on the bridge on the Woodchurch Flyover throwing unknown objects at cars on the motorway.

"A patrol drove past the location a short time later but nobody was located.

"Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 5551 111 quoting log 748 of 13th September."
