Woman's 'perfect' air fryer hack to to cook crispy and fluffy jacket potatoes

As the weather gets cooler, many may will turn to jacket potatoes as a winter warmer meal - but achieving that perfect crispy potato skin with a fluffy inside can be tough to balance.

Amid a soaring cost-of-living crisis, Brits are looking to lower energy bills and one popular tip has been to use an air-fryer in place of the oven. While the microwave can bake a potato, it won't get that perfect crispy exterior.

To get that perfectly cooked spud, one TikTok user has shared her recipe to make jacket potatoes in the air fryer - and it has received glowing reviews.

In a video shared on the app, Nisha Parmar, also known as @nishascookingagain_, said: “If you’re not already roasting your jacket potatoes in an Airfryer then you're missing out on crispy skin and creamy fluffy insides! It’s quicker and much cheaper energy wise vs a conventional oven."

Read below to learn how to get your jacket potatoes perfectly cooked, as reported by Coventry Live.

In her video, Nisha took a large white potato and stabbed a sharp knife a few times over the skin. You can also use a fork to do this if you’d prefer.

After putting olive oil over the skin, a large amount of sea salt was sprinkled on top and the potato was then placed in the basket. The temperature was set to 190 degrees Celsius, and the roast setting - not air crisp - was chosen.

The potato was inside the air fryer for 45 minutes. She said: “it comes out beautiful every time - so much cheaper and quicker!”

It has been an instant hit with Emma Wood75 road-testing the air fryer jacket potatoes and posting: “Just made this today! So lovely, the crisp on the outside and nice and fluffy on the inside! Thank you for the recommendation. I’ll never go back now!”

Daniel Aaron shared his tips for a crispy jacket in half the time Nisha cooks hers: “I sit mine is cold salty water for 20 minutes and then only cook it for 20 in the airfryer. Comes out PERFECT.”

Aly&Ari shared an even quicker way: “Microwave for eight mins pop into air fryer for another 10 mins till crispy. Half the time and it’s so good.”

Cora-Ann Fagan optimises the air fryer being plugged in and batch cooks: “I do 10 at a time and freeze them for work lunches.”

Air fryers have become a hugely popular kitchen gadget, not only for helping to cut calories but they also use much less electricity than a conventional oven.
