Woman's near 20-year search for sister she's never met leads her to Glasgow

A woman searching for the sister she's never met believes she could be in Glasgow.

Julie Cameron has been desperately hunting for her sister, who was put up for adoption as a baby, since she first found out about her in 2001.

And Julie has uncovered new evidence suggesting the woman may now live in Glasgow, reports Glasgow Live.

The shame the pregnancy brought on the family in the early 50s forced Julie's mum to make the heartbreaking decision to put her little girl up for adoption.

She gave birth on November 14, 1953.

After falling pregnant, she was sent to London to stay with a family friend who was a doctor where she gave birth to a baby believed to be called Audrey Howorth.

Audrey was adopted in Scotland and her existence was kept a secret from Julie and her younger sister until their mother died.

Julie explains: "After finding out, I phoned all of mum's friends but no one could shed any light on the information with the exception of auntie Anne who remembered seeing the baby in my grandparents lounge.

"With that information I immediately researched and found the birth record, ordered a copy of the birth certificate and eagerly waited for it to arrive.

"On receipt the last column said adopted in Scotland. This started a massive interest in family history.

"Since then I've travelled to both Stornoway, the outer Hebrides, Glenfinnan to meet extended family members, but no one has been able to offer any information. Audrey could have a new name which I have no access to.

Julie has also issued an appeal for information online, which has been shared over 120,000 times but sadly hasn't brought her any closer to finding her sister.

She is desperate to find her sister before her birthday in November.

She adds: "It would be amazing if this chapter could be closed in my life, it absorbs me for months on end. My birthday is also in November and I think as two Scorpios we would have an understanding."
