Woman's Mallorca birthday trip turned into nightmare by man she thought was new friend

A holidaymaker from Wales says her Mallorca birthday trip turned into a nightmare when she was robbed by a man she thought she'd made friends with.

Emma Owen said the man ripped her bag from her, leaving her battered and bruised on the floor. The 24-year-old is now warning tourists to take care when they meet people abroad and not to put themselves in danger.

Ms Owen travelled to the town of Portals Nous in Mallorca with her mum on her birthday. But her holiday fun turned into a terrifying experience.

"Me and my mum were having a lovely holiday in Mallorca," she told North Wales Live.

"We decided to go for an evening to Magaluf on Thursday.

"My mother decided to go home early and I decided to stay out. I met a group of people who seemed very friendly.

"One male got my trust and invited me down to the beach, as he said it was a lovely beach. We sat and talked for a while before heading back up.

"When there was nobody around on the beach by the steps back up to the strip, he came from behind and started to pull on my bag until I actually fell onto the steps, injuring my leg and leaving me bruised."

Ms Owen, from Llanfairfechan in Conwy, said she had marks under her arms where the man grabbed her and was pulling on her bag, which contained cash and an iPhone.

"He was still tugging on my bag, until it actually snapped," she said.

"I have not stopped crying since this robbery happened. I’m lucky to be alive. This has mentally broken me."

Ms Owen said she reported the crime to the local police and was given a crime number. She flew home on Friday night and arrived early on Saturday morning.

"It has really knocked my confidence and I just don't want to go out now," said Ms Owen.

"I wish I had gone back home with my mum, but I was enjoying myself. Given what happened to me, I just wanted to warn others to be careful when they are out on holiday, as I do not want this to happen to anybody else."
