Woman's innocent question about Nigel Slater aubergine recipe has everyone cracking up

On Wednesday, cook and food writer Nigel Slater took to Twitter to share his latest midweek meal recipe for a "luscious, aromatic dinner".

The piece instructed on how to whip up aubergines, feta, chickpeas, ras el hanout and it looked pretty tasty.

So tasty, that even a woman who claimed to be allergic to aubergines wanted to give it a go.

The woman, named Susan, replied to Nigel's post saying that she wanted to make it and asking if there was anything she could substitute the aubergine for.

She wrote: "Looks delicious, if only I wasn't allergic to aubergine, I would have a go at this. Any substitute suggestions please?"

Susan's seemingly innocent question prompted a rather blunt reply from Nigel which has left fellow Twitter users cracking up.

He stated simply: "Susan, it’s an aubergine recipe."

More than 2,000 people liked his tweet with hundreds retweeting.

Susan didn't seem too bothered by his comment though, responding: "Fair enough".

Many others took the time to share their thoughts on the amusing exchange.

One person tweeted: "This has absolutely made my morning. I’m going back to bed. It won’t be bettered."

A second posted: "Poor old Susan."

A third added: "Big Nige throwing some shade. Couldn’t be more here for it."

Someone else joked: "Thoughts and prayers with Susan, who may never recover from being so comprehensively owned by Nigel Slater."

Others tried to be a bit more helpful for Susan, sharing alternatives as they thought it was "a fair enough question".

"In fairness though Susan I bet it'd be lovely with grilled courgette, as long as they aren't particularly watery ones," said a different person.

"Susan, you could swap it up for anything you’d like. Recipes aren’t bound to law. Hope you find the right balance for you," wrote a second.

Some also suggested using pork or halloumi.
