Woman's heartbreak after NHS denies her IVF because husband already has kids with ex

A woman has been left heartbroken after she was denied funding for IVF treatment because her husband already has kids from a previous relationship.

Kelsey and Jack still dream of having children together despite having battled a host of harrowing problems over their four years of marriage.

After losing nine babies to miscarriages, the couple were told last Christmas that their only hope to build a family of their own was through IVF.

But NHS rules state that because Jack has a son and daughter already they will have to pay for the fertility treatment themselves.

Kelsey, 31, told Leicestershire Live : "I love Jack's son and daughter to bits and would do anything for them but I'm not their mum. They have a mum.

"It's heartbreaking to be told I am not childless. I don't have children. I have appealed the decision but they just sent me a copy of their guidelines.

"It feels worse because of everything we've been through."

Since they started trying for a family in October 2017 Kelsey has had numerous miscarriages and a rare ectopic and heterotopic twin pregnancy, which resulted in emergency surgery to remove one of Kelseys fallopian tubes as well as the unborn children.

Kelsey then received a diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome, further reducing her chances of being able to conceive naturally.

The NHS receptionist said: "We will have to fund it all ourselves and it's going to be about £15,000.

"But we want to have a child of our own to add to our family."

All they need is enough money in the bank to have confidence they will be able to complete the process and they have set up a GoFundMe page asking for £2,500 to get them started.
