Woman is 'heart broken' over find in car park outside Sports Direct

A "heartbroken" woman is hoping to reunite a Christmas card stuffed with cash to its rightful owner.

The card is addressed to a "special daughter" and has her name written on the envelope. It was found on Christmas Eve afternoon lying on the ground in the car park, outside Sports Direct at Aintree Retail Park on Ormskirk Road.

Despite determined efforts to trace the owner - including putting messages on social media and trying to contact retailers at the site - no-one has yet come forward to claim it.

The money envelope was found by the 27-year-old son of Sue Herrity, from Fazakerley.

She said: "My son was going into Sports Direct when he spotted it on the floor of the car park and picked it up.

"The envelope has the person's name written on it, while the message inside the card says it's from 'mum and dad.'

"It seems to be an older person's handwriting because it's in block capitals.

"I've put a message up on Facebook and in several groups, but so far no-one has come forward to claim it."

She added: "I really hope I can get it back to whoever it belongs to. It's a lot of money for a pensioner to lose and it breaks my heart to think about it.

"I've brought my children up to be honest and we just want to do the right thing.

"You sleep better at night if you're honest."

The ECHO has agreed not to reveal the name of the intended recipient, nor the amount of cash contained in the envelope, to prevent bogus claims being made.
