Woman's handbag stolen from her car while waiting at traffic lights in Byker

Police are appealing for information after a bag was stolen from a car while it waited at traffic lights.

At about 7.45pm on Wednesday, November 4, a woman was waiting at traffic lights near to Heron Foods on Welbeck Road in Byker.

A stranger approached her car, opened her passenger door and stole her handbag that contained a large amount of cash.

He then fled the area at which point the driver of the red Vauxhall Tigra contacted police to report the theft.

Enquiries to identify the man are ongoing but police are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed what happened.

The man responsible for the theft is described as white, of slim build, aged in his mid 20s and wearing a black jacket, dark jeans, a black cap and a black face mask.

Anyone who saw what happened, or believes they know the identity of the thief, is asked to call 101 quoting log 1076 04/11/20.
