Woman's hair ripped from scalp 'in racially motivated attack' as police hunt man

Police have launched an investigation after a woman had hair torn from her scalp as she got off a bus in an "unprovoked attack".

The victim, 31 and from South Asia, had just left the Route 119 bus outside East Croydon Railway Station when she was injured.

After grabbing her hair, resulting in a portion to be ripped out of her head, she was punched which caused her to fall to the ground.

She suffered facial injuries in the prolonged attack.

Investigating detectives have now released a picture of a man they believe may be able to help with enquiries.

Detective Constable Becky Hughes, said: “This was an entirely unprovoked assault which continued whilst the victim was lying on the ground.

“Tackling violent crime, especially against women and girls, remains our main priority.

“I would urge anyone who was there, or who recognises the person whose image we have released today, to come forward.

“We need to identify and speak with him.”

No arrests have been made as officers continue their enquiries.
