Woman's genius hack to make sure her boyfriend buys her presents she likes

A woman has revealed a genius hack to ensure your other half gets you presents you actually want this Christmas. Communications officer Fiona Daly shared the idea on Twitter after overhearing a conversation where the genius tip was discussed.

"I just overheard a woman say she uses her boyfriend's laptop to Google Christmas presents she wants so that he gets targeted ads," she said. "Communication in the digital age: a love story. In a later tweet, Fiona dubbed her acquaintance "the most terrifying yet impressive person I've met this year".

Fiona's Tweet has since been liked more than 85,000 times and thousands of people have responded to praise the anonymous woman she quoted. Among the responses, London 2012 Olympian Natasha Jonas said: "That woman is ahead of her time. Pure genius," while Twitter user called That Girl said: "Work smarter, not harder." And Twitter user Obliviusing added: "Brilliant! She gets what she wants and he gets to feel like he's the best gift selector ever."

But while many were impressed by the unusual hack, others said that not knowing what to buy your partner for a gift was a bad sign for a relationship - and that knowing what someone is buying you could ruin the surprise.

"Hmm.... communication, or manipulation?" questioned Twitter uses Edoc006. "Either way, it is brilliant, but it feels dirty."

Twitter user 5tephenTownsend shared a similar sentiment. He said: "Smart but if her partner doesn't know what she likes I can't imagine they have a particularly strong relationship."

Whilst Twitter account EibhinCurley also acknowledged another issue. "It is not so great when your nine-year-old uses the laptop that you used for Christmas shopping." she said.
