Woman's genius hack keeps avocados fresh for months, and stops them from going brown

Eating avocados can sometimes feel like an Olympic sport.

One minute they're green and overripe, and within the time it takes you to blink they're brown - and it's difficult to work out exactly when to eat them.

Luckily, one woman has come up with a genius hack for keeping them fresh for a long period time, and it's so obvious you'll want to kick yourself.

Posting on popular Facebook group Slow Cooker Recipe and Tips , she shared her trick.

"A little trick I’ve been doing with avocado! I heard that you can buy it frozen but was never able to find it anywhere. So I thought why not freeze it myself. It works amazing!" the woman wrote.

"So I buy fresh avocado, cut in half take pit out and slice it. You can chunk it too. I lay it out on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze. Then just put in freezer bag and you can take out what you need.

"A lot of you like it in smoothies. I have been letting it thaw and use it on sandwiches or with eggs. It stays nice and green as well!"

"Awesome must try this.. Thank you," said one.

Somebody else excitedly added: "So useful to know. Thank you I'll be buying avocados again as I'm the only one who eats them in our house."

"I didn't even know you can freeze them but thank you for the tip, I must try," a third wrote.

If you're feeling too lazy to chop up your own avocado, you can buy pre-packed frozen bags of avocado chunks in some major UK supermarkets (though it'll work out much more expensive than doing it yourself).

Sainsbury's is currently stocking bags of avocado chunks for £3.

Ocado is selling 500g bags of ripened avocado halves for £4.50.

Iceland has 500g bags of avocado halves for £3, and 300g bags of avocado chunks for 300g.
