An American woman has made a major interview faux pas after criticising her would-be employer on a pre-recorded video interview.
Chaylene Martinez, who goes by @chayjordan_ on TikTok, shared the mistake to the video-sharing platform which has seen it amass over 7.7 million “likes”.
In the clip, Martinez is recording an interview for a position with SkyWest airlines.
In the now-viral clip, she is seen complaining about SkyWest’s interview questions to a friend on the phone when she accidentally begins recording herself.
“The question is … the stupidest, cheesiest question I’ve ever read in my life,” she said.
“What is your impression of SkyWest’s company culture, and how does that resonate with you?” she added, reading the question she has to answer out loud. “You have to record yourself [answering] it, and it’s so awkward.”
Martinez begins to practice how she would work the airline’s mission statement into her answer when she realises that her comments have been recorded.
“Oh no,” she said in the recording. “I’m so sorry, I didn’t realise it was recording. I was practicing.”
In the post to TikTok, Martinez captioned the video: “Doing a video interview that you only get one chance to get it right … accidentally started recording early.”
She added, as the video goes on, that it “gets worse”.
In Martinez’s TikTok bio she said: “No I didn’t get the job. Someone hire me.”
Martinez then posted a follow–up video explaining that, because the first video had gone viral, her current boss knew she was looking for a new job.
“When you post a video of yourself applying for other jobs and your coworkers find out and now your boss knows you’re looking for another job,” she said.
“Why did I not think this through, someone hire me fast before I get fired.”
