A woman from Texas tried something strange before going to a casino, and it actually worked out well for her. Jackie Nicole, who lives in Austin and makes content for TikTok, shared a weird tip her father gave her that she says helped her win money.
When Nicole went to the casino with her family, her dad told her to do something odd. He said she should put a garlic clove in her purse, but she needed to keep it in a ziplock bag so it wouldn’t smell up everything. She did what he said, and things turned out pretty good for her. She ended up winning some decent cash at the casino.
Nicole posted about what happened on TikTok and explained everything. “This past weekend I went to the casino with my family and my dad randomly told me to put a garlic in my purse (in a Ziplock of course)…and tell me why I actually won,” she wrote in her video. She told people she won a good chunk of money and suggested they might want to give the garlic trick a try too.
People have believed in garlic’s power for thousands of years
Using garlic for good luck isn’t something new at all. People have been doing this kind of thing for a really long time. Way back in ancient times, folks thought garlic was special and could do more than just make food taste better. The ancient Greeks would leave garlic at places where roads crossed because they thought it was a gift for Hecate, who was their goddess of magic. They figured it would mess with bad spirits and make them get lost.
Soldiers in ancient Rome would eat garlic before they went to fight because they believed it made them braver. When people opened up King Tut’s tomb in Egypt, they actually found garlic bulbs inside, which shows how much they valued it back then.
During the Middle Ages, people would hang garlic over their doors or wear it to keep away bad things. Folks in Europe believed garlic could keep vampires, demons, and bad luck away from them. This wasn’t just a European thing either. People in Korea and other parts of the world had similar beliefs about garlic.
This idea has stuck around even today, and plenty of people still carry garlic when they want some extra protection or luck, just as some workers have been caught in questionable situations where their excuses don’t really add up. Nicole isn’t the only person who brings lucky items to casinos. Lots of people who gamble have their own special objects they think will help them win.
Some people carry rabbit feet or look for four-leaf clovers. Others wear certain clothes or bring along things that were with them when they won before. This happens because humans naturally want to feel like they have some control when things are unpredictable.
Scientists haven’t found any proof that lucky charms actually make you win more, but people who use them say it makes them feel more confident and helps them think better. Much like someone who keeps going back to fix a problem that won’t go away, gamblers often stick with their lucky routines when they think they’re working.
