Woman's clever hack to transform your staircase and make it far more stylish for less than £30

The stairs are one of the first things on view when the front door to your home is opened.

Which means they've got to be attractive and welcoming.

But children, pets and usual wear and tear can leave a carpet looking a little dated and dull.

One woman has come up with a great way to transform your staircase without spending more than £30.

Sandra Young shared photos of her brand new staircase after her Alaskan Klee Kai puppy Nanci started tearing up the carpet on her stairs to eat the underlay, LiverpoolEcho reports.

Removing the carpet altogether, Sandra and her husband transformed their stairs - and stopped Nanci eating them in the process.

Sandra shared her story in the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, and said: "After our puppy kept loosing the carpet to eat the underlay it had to go.

"So after seeing a post on here, my husband sanded down the stairs varnished them the used 2 rolls of sticky back vinyl from b&q costing £10 a roll with the varnish £28.99 altogether and it is not slippery at all.

"I'm in love."

Using varnish and self-adhesive vinyl, the couple has completely transformed their stairs, having replaced the carpet with exposed wood steps with patterned tiles, for £28.99.

Many have shared their similar results in the comments, while others insist they’ll be trying the technique themselves.
