Woman's body recovered from River Tyne near Newcastle Quayside, police confirm

The body of a woman has been recovered from the River Tyne near Newcastle's Quayside, police have confirmed.

Emergency services were called to the scene shortly before 3.45pm on Saturday, June 26.

Officers said there was not believed to be any third party involvement and enquiries were ongoing to determine the woman's identity.

A Northumbria Police spokesman said: "Shortly before 3.45pm today (Saturday), we received a report of a body found in the River Tyne near the Redheugh Bridge, Newcastle.

“Emergency services attended and with the help of Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service the body of a female was recovered from the water.

“Enquiries are ongoing to determine the identity of the female and notify her next of kin.

“There is not believed to be any third party involvement at this time and a report will be made for the coroner.”
