Woman's body pulled from water in Co Clare as gardai launch investigation

An investigation has been launched after a woman's body was found in Co Clare.

The woman's remains were located in the water near O’Brien’s Bridge at around 9am on Monday morning.

Emergency services including gardai, the Coast Guard, and teams from the local fire and ambulance services all attended the scene near the River Shannon on the Clare/Limerick border.

The woman's body has been taken to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick and the local coroner has been informed.

Gardai are investigating the discovery but it is understood that no foul play is suspected at this time.

A spokesperson said: "Gardai are investigating the discovery of a body of a woman in the environs of O’Brien’s Bridge in County Clare on Monday, November 29, 2021.

"The local coroner has been notified and the body has been removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick."

Killaloe Coast Guard confirmed they assisted gardai with the search operation on Monday.

A spokesperson said: "Killaloe Coast Guard unit were requested by An Garda Siochana for assistance at 9am Monday morning, November 29.

"The unit deployed teams to O’Brien’s Bridge, Co Clare and the incident was resolved a short time later.

"Also tasked were Killaloe Fire and Rescue and National Ambulance Service.

"Our deepest condolences to family and friends."

It comes as gardai are investigating the discovery of a man's body in Co Kerry on Monday.

The man was found dead in a car in Abbeydorney on Monday morning.

Emergency services rushed to the village, which is located near Tralee, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His remains were removed to the mortuary at Kerry University Hospital and the local coroner has been notified.
