Woman's body found in Sydney park

Police officers peer over the crime scene in Hunters Hill.

A council worker has found the body of a woman near a playground in a park in Sydney's north.

Police and homicide detectives were called to Buffalo Creek Reserve at Hunters Hill about 7:30am after the body was located in the park.

The ABC understands drag marks of up to 30 metres were seen near the body, however police are yet to determine whether they are connected to the death.

The death is being treated as suspicious.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation is underway, with police looking at the possibility of it being a domestic violence incident.

Detective Superintendent David Waddell said the body was clothed when it was found by the council worker on Wednesday morning.

He said it was too early to determine how the person died.

"Crime scene investigators only just got on the scene," he said. "It's very early stages."

"We haven't identified who the person is at this stage. But we'll widen our search once the crime scene has been established."

There is a heavy police presence at the park, with a mix of uniformed and plain-clothed officers at the scene.

The park is a popular destination for children and families in the area — particularly on the weekends — with a soccer pitch, bike track and flying fox.

Keith Booth and his two grandchildren arrived at the park to find it turned into a crime scene.

He was shocked to hear that a body had been found.

"It's school holidays so a bit disappointing to see all the police at the park and it's dreadful to hear about the body," he told the ABC.

"I'm not actually from Sydney but I know this park is popular with families and children.

"It's a bit creepy to see it turned into a crime scene."

Hunters Hill is an affluent area of Sydney, and the park backs on to the Lane Cove River which eventually runs into the Parramatta River and Sydney Harbour.
