Woman's body found in search for missing crabber at Mandurah

The body of a woman who went missing while on a crab fishing trip on Friday has been discovered at Mandurah in Perth's south after an extensive overnight search.

Police said the body was found in the water by searchers around 9.00am on Saturday about two kilometres north of Herron Point.

A man in his fifties called police around 10:30pm last night after his wife disappeared while they were crabbing with a group of people at Island Point Reserve in Herron.

It is understood when police arrived the man was not on scene but was found shortly afterwards nearby, searching for his wife.

The patrol helicopter was deployed to assist the search overnight with no success, and water police continued the search at daylight.

The circumstances around the woman's disappearance are still emerging.

The waters of the Peel Inlet and the Harvey Estuary are approximately twice the size of Sydney Harbour and are popular with recreational fishers searching for blue swimmer crabs.
