Woman's body found in River Avon

A woman's body has been found in the River Avon near the centre of Bristol.

Police had been investigating a concern for welfare report by members of the public who found personal property by the Plimsoll Swing Bridge.

An Avon and Somerset police spokeswoman said: "Officers were alerted in the early hours of Sunday, September 12, by a fire crew who had been searching the water [after the personal property was found].

"The property is believed to belong to a 26-year-old woman who is being treated as a high-risk missing person by police. Investigations to trace her have included reviewing CCTV and using drones to search around the area where the items were found.

"Sadly, the body of a woman was recovered from the river on Friday, September 17. While formal identification has yet to take place, the missing woman's close friend has been informed.

"Officers have not yet been able to trace immediate family members who may be abroad. The death is not being treated as suspicious and officers will complete a report for the coroner."
