A woman’s body was found after fire fighters were called to a flat in Southport.
Fire crews made the tragic discovery after being called to the home on Promenade early on Sunday morning.
The fire service had been called to a fire inside the flat at around 6am, where they discovered the woman.
Police and ambulance crews were then called but the woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fire had been put out before the arrival of emergency services, and the flats were evacuated while the fire service made the premises safe.
A spokesman for Merseyside Police said: “An investigation will take place in conjunction with the fire service into the cause of the fire. At this time, it is not being treated as suspicious.”
