Woman's body discovered in Ayrshire river as police probe 'unexplained' death

A woman's body has been discovered by police in an Ayrshire river.

Officers were called to an area near Bankhead Road yesterday afternoon, next to the River Garnock where officials say the discovery was made in the water.

Police are treating the death as unexplained and investigations are now ongoing into the matter, police have said this afternoon.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to an area off Bankhead Road in Kilwinning at around 1.45pm on Thursday, 19 January, 2023 following the discovery of a body within the water.

“The body of a woman was recovered with the death being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
