Woman's anger after waking up to find huge 5G mast outside her Leeds home

A Leeds woman woke up to loud banging - then discovered a 20 metre 5G mast was being installed outside her home.

Holly Ridge was woken by workmen on Monday as the mast was installed near her home in Woodhouse Street, Woodhouse and said she was 'shocked' when she found out what was being built.

The 29-year-old said she asked her neighbours if they knew about Leeds City Council’s plans to place the 5G mast in the area but claims no one knew.

Holly said: “I woke up and heard lots of banging outside, I had a look and they had put the 5G mast in Woodhouse.

“We didn’t get any letters, any emails from the council.

“I asked the neighbours if they had heard anything. They’re not happy about it.

“We haven’t been told what it is and why its there. We haven’t been given a chance to object.

“Its an eyesore, it’s not the best area and it’s going to put house prices down. Who’s going to buy my house in the future with this there? It’s absurd.

“They did it behind our backs, as a community we’re not happy about it. We’ve been shunned and like our opinions don’t matter.

“It doesn’t seem right they can’t tell us or give us the chance to object.”

Holly claims that people in the Woodhouse area have a good mobile signal and that the mast is not needed.

She added: “They have been doing this across the country no one is very happy about it. They’ve had incidents where people have got them down and burnt them down," Holly added.

“I just think if they’re not going to tell us there must be something wrong. There’s no research to say how this can affect us in the future.”

Dr Gero Baiarda, an NHS GP, has spoken publicly about why conspiracy theories around health and 5G are scientifically incorrect and should be treated as fake news. 5G radio waves are very inert low-frequency waves that have no discernible effect on human beings.

Holly has filed a complaint to Leeds City Council about the mast and has also raised the issue with Labour MP for Leeds Central Hilary Benn.

A council spokesperson said: “It is important to us that our residents know their concerns are being listened to. We are currently investigating this complaint and will liaise directly with the resident.”
