A man has faced court accused of murdering a young Queensland woman in Tasmania. (AAP)

A man accused of murdering a young Queensland woman whose body was found at her friend's home in northern Tasmania has briefly appeared in court.

Colin William Drake, 35, was charged on Wednesday night over the death of 23-year-old Gabrielle Marshall.

Her body was found by police in a house on Main Street at Ulverstone in the early hours of Tuesday.

Ms Marshall has been remembered by her brother as a beautiful soul who was trying to turn her life around. She had only been in Tasmania for a few weeks.

Drake, who is from Ulverstone, appeared in Devonport Magistrates Court on Thursday and was remanded in custody.

He has not yet entered a plea to one charge of murder and is expected to face court again on July 15 via video link.

Police have spent several days gathering evidence from houses in Main Street.
