A woman was rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a 'concern for welfare' call to 999. Emergency services scrambled to the incident on the M60 on Thursday afternoon (November 10).
Police and paramedics raced to the scene shortly after midday, with an air ambulance also landing nearby. The woman was taken to hospital in an ambulance.
Traffic was immediately stopped on the carriageway between junction 15 near the M61 and junction 17 for Whitefield. Police and traffic officers were at the scene as the motorway was closed in both directions.
Motorway cameras showed huge queues forming on Thursday afternoon, with reports of four miles of congestion building as emergency services worked at the scene.
The North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) sent an ambulance and an air ambulance to the scene. Police said they had been called to reports for concern for the welfare of a woman shortly after 12pm before she was rushed to hospital.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police added: "Police were called at around 12:12pm on Thursday 10 November 2022 to reports for concern for welfare of a woman on the M60 on the anti-clockwise carriageway at junction 17. NWAS attended and the woman has been taken to hospital with serious injuries."
