Woman rushed to hospital after M8 car crash shuts down busy motorway

A woman was rushed to hospital after a crash on the M8 shut down the busy motorway.

The 26-year-old woman was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary after the two car-smash this morning.

Mercy crews attended the scene near J3 after the alarm was raised at around 7.55am.

The major road was shut down as a result sparking long delays and traffic chaos.

But all lanes have since re-opened now.

A Police Scotland spokesperson: "We were made aware of a two-car crash on the M80 near J3 around 7.55am.

"A 26-year-old woman has been taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary as a precaution.

"Best to check Traffic Scotland for updates on whether all lanes have re-opened."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were called to assist our emergency service partners at 7.57am on Monday, March 22 to Junction 3 of the M80 southbound.

“Operations Control mobilised two appliances to the scene, where two cars were involved in a road traffic collision.

“Firefighters assisted their partners by making the area safe.”
