Woman rushed to hospital after horror fire rips through Edinburgh flat

A woman was taken to hospital after emergency services raced to a horror fire at a flat in Edinburgh.

Fire crews and police were alerted to reports of a large blaze at a property in the capital's Alan Breck Gardens at around 4am on Tuesday December 15.

The female was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary where she was treated for smoke inhilation. She was later discharged.

The road was closed for about four hours while emergency services dealt with the fire, which police are now investigating to establish its cause.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “We were alerted at 4.11am on Tuesday, December 15 to reports of a fire within a tenement at Alan Breck Gardens, Edinburgh.

“Operations Control mobilised three appliances and a height vehicle to the scene, where crews worked to extinguish the fire. There were no reported casualties.

"Firefighters left after making the area safe.”

A police spokeswoman said: “Around 4.20am on Tuesday, 15 December, 2020, officers received report of a fire at a property on Alan Breck Gardens, Edinburgh.

"One woman was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh with smoke inhalation and has since been released.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire. The road was re-opened around 8.15am.”
