Woman rushed to hospital after horror collision with cyclist and lorry in Borough

A woman cyclist was taken to hospital after being struck by an HGV on a major south London road.

The woman, in her 30s, suffered serious injuries in the collison on Great Dover Street at 8.22am on Thursday.

Horrific footage on social media shows the victim covered in a foil blanket as she receives first aid at the scene from paramedics.

Nigel Carroll, who lives close to the scene of the collision, said he heard “ a bang” and looked out at the scene.

He told the Standard: “It’s quite a busy road. Cars do go quite fast, no bike or bus lane along this part of the route, quite tight for two lanes.”

A Met spokesman said: “The cyclist, a woman in her 30s, has been taken to hospital. Her injuries were assessed as non-life threatening.

“Road closures have been put in place.

“Enquiries are ongoing and no arrests have been made.”

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 8.22am today to reports of a road traffic collision involving a cyclist and a truck on Great Dover Street, SE1.

“We sent an ambulance crew, a medic in a car, and an incident response officer. We also dispatched by road London’s Air Ambulance.

“A woman was treated at the scene and taken to a hospital as a priority.”
