Woman rushed to hospital after falling onto tracks at Scots railway station

A woman was rushed to hospital after falling onto the tracks at a Scots train station.

Emergency services raced to the scene at Haymarket Station in Edinburgh yesterday afternoon.

The woman had to be rescued from the tracks after she had fallen from one of the platforms.

Edinburgh Live reported that police, fire and paramedics all attended the incident, which took place just after 2pm yesterday.

The area inside the station was evacuated to allow emergency service room to remove the woman from the sunken track.

After she was rescued, the woman was rushed to hospital where is receiving treatment for injuries which are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.

The incident caused considerable train disruption, with Scotrail being forced to terminate services between Helensburgh Central and Edinburgh Bathgate.

Posting on Twitter, they said: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident at Haymarket our services between Helensburgh Central and Edinburgh will be terminated at and started back from Bathgate.

"I'll update you as soon as I can."

Police Scotland confirmed that they had attended the incident.

A spokesperson said: "Officers were called to Haymarket station at 2.17pm today (16 September) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended and a woman has been taken to hospital for treatment to injuries which are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious."
