Woman rushed to hospital after falling in River Kelvin in Glasgow's west end

A woman has been taken to hospital after she fell into the River Kelvin this afternoon.

The incident unfolded at around 2pm on Friday near Glasgow's Botanic Gardens at Queen Margaret Drive.

The woman was out of the water by the time fire crews arrived and was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary as a precaution.

A spokesman for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service  said: “The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 1.59pm on Friday to assist emergency service partners after reports of a person in the water in Glasgow.

“Operations Control mobilised water rescue resources to Queen Margaret Drive where one female casualty was already out of the water prior to fire service arrival.

“The casualty was taken to Glasgow Royal Infirmary for a precautionary check.

“Crews left the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.”
