Woman rushed to hospital after falling ill near SPFL stadium as cops swoop on scene

A woman has been rushed to hospital after taking unwell near a popular sports centre in Edinburgh. The alarm was raised around 6pm when officers received a concern for a person call.

Emergency services, including Police Scotland, raced to the scene outside Meadowbank Stadium, home of League One side FC Edinburgh, where they discovered the stricken victim.

The woman was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh for treatment. Her current condition is not yet known, reports EdinburghLive.

An eyewitness claimed that officers swooped on London Road, where the facility is situated, just as crowds of parents were gathering to drop their children off at athletics practice. A picture taken near FC Edinburgh's stadium shows at least three police vehicles parked next to the car park adjoining the ground.

The mum-of-two said: "There were a load of parents dropping their kids off for athletics then all of a sudden out of nowhere multiple police cars appeared. We couldn't really see what was happening but it's not what you expect on a quiet Tuesday evening."

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "Officers received a concern for person call around 6pm near to the stadium and a woman was taken to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh."

As well as hosting the League One club's home matches, Meadowbank Stadium is popular with locals and offers a wide range of sport and fitness activities.
